In addition, Simel— pronounced (se'mul)— has been actively engaged in self development practices. These include indigenous wisdom, celestial calligraphy, and the creation of harmonius energy for his family and the world at large. Simel has received deeksha from Dr. Mitchell Earl Gibson, and he studies celestial calligraphy with Dr. Yong Wen Hoe. He has been with both mentors for three years.
He credits his great-grandfather, grandfather, and their mothers for his interest in botany and the healing profession:
Says Simel: "My great-grandfather was the botanical curator of Wormsloe Plantation in Savannah, Georgia. Wormsloe was incorporated before the state of Georgia. He gave tours for well-known persons of the era on the identity of various plants in Wormsloe for over 50 years, just as his son did for 50 years after his father. I owe this passion to my folk."
Simel has traveled and studied in the deserts of Chihuahua, Mexico, and the rainforests of Kenya and Tanzania. He is familiar with indigenous traditional medicines and their uses. Among other pursuits, he has released the book, Children's Initiatic Tales: Stories of the Immortal Light.
